The holiday season in North County San Diego is truly special. From the sparkling coastline of Oceanside to the charming streets of Encinitas, our local communities know how to celebrate in style.

Whether you are looking for a festive parade, a dazzling light display, or a local makers' market to finish your shopping, we have curated the ultimate list of must-attend events for 2025. Get your calendars ready!

Pro Tip: Many of these events are free, but they are also popular. Arrive early for parking, especially for the parades in Encinitas and Vista!

1. Dazzling Light Displays & Experiences

Nothing says "holidays" like a stunning light show. Here are the top spots to get your glow on this year:

  • Lightscape at San Diego Botanic Garden (Encinitas):

A reimagined one-mile trail featuring artistic installations from around the world. Enjoy festive cocktails and music as you walk through a "firefly field" and other glowing wonders.
  • Jingle Terrace Live (Vista):

The Moonlight Amphitheatre transforms into a festive light show with live music, food trucks, and photo ops. A local favorite for families!
  • Coastal Christmas (Del Mar):
    Dates: Dec 12 - 26 | Del Mar Fairgrounds
Ice skating, millions of lights, and holiday cheer right by the ocean. A perfect evening out for all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions About Holiday Events

Q: Are the holiday parades in North County free?
A: Yes! The Encinitas, Vista, San Marcos, and Oceanside parades are all free to attend. Arriving early to snag a good viewing spot along the route is highly recommended.
Q: Do I need tickets for Lightscape at the Botanic Garden?
A: Yes. Lightscape is a ticketed event with timed entry slots. It often sells out, especially on weekends, so booking your tickets online in advance is essential.
Q: Where is the best place to see holiday lights in North County?
A: Besides the paid events, neighborhoods like "Christmas Card Lane" in Rancho Peñasquitos and "Candy Cane Lane" in Poway are famous for their elaborate residential displays.
Q: Is the Oceanside Harbor Parade of Lights suitable for kids?
A: Absolutely! Kids love seeing the decorated boats. Dress warmly, as it can get chilly by the water at night.
Q: When is the best time to visit the holiday markets?
A: Mornings are usually less crowded and offer the best selection of handmade goods. If you want to see Santa, check the specific event schedule as his hours are often limited.
Q: Are pets allowed at these events?
A: Most outdoor parades and street fairs are dog-friendly (on a leash), but ticketed events like Lightscape or the Botanic Garden typically have restrictions. Always check the specific event website first.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: San Diego events are usually rain or shine, but heavy storms can cause cancellations. Check the event's social media pages for real-time updates if the weather looks iffy.
